Good morning Rockdale Ram Nation. This is to serve as a notice that starting on Monday, August 15th until 4 pm on Friday, August 26, we will have an online STUDENT Rockdale Spirit Store! We are excited to be partnering with Ms. Nurczyk from Chasing T’s Inkooperated to offer this to our Rockdale Rams as we look to continue will Spirit Day Fridays! We have worked with Ms. Nurczyk for the past three years as she is the creative genius behind our “Class of” yard signs for our graduating 8th Graders! I will be sending out the link via Teacherease Monday morning as the store will officially be open. Be on the lookout for this tremendous opportunity! The spirit store will open up again in early November and again in the spring if you are unable to purchase any items at this time. Please be aware that many schools who offer Spirit stores upcharge so they use it as a fundraiser. Not Rockdale School. I wanted to keep the items as low as possible so it was more affordable to you, our parents, but also providing quality updated Rockdale Ram gear to proudly wear on Fridays! A few key pieces of information regarding the online store: -The Spirit Store is online only and must be completed through various means of electronic payments. Rockdale School will not accept cash or check payments or place orders on behalf of parents. -Please be aware when ordering sizes that some pieces may run small. -The store will be open for 2 weeks, then closed for a 2 week production time. Production does not begin the first day the store opens. Please be patient with the timing in receiving your order. When it arrives, I will send a notice out via Teacherease. So far, I have been very pleased with the turnaround time for the pieces we have ordered as a school. There could be some delays due to supply chain issues, availability of some product, etc. You WILL receive the items you have purchased. -You will see, prior to checkout, shipping fee, but complete the order because Ms. Nurczyk has graciously agreed to waive that fee at the end of the online sale. Items will be delivered personally by Ms. Nurczyk to the school. Lastly, please share with me feedback regarding additional items that you might like to see in the store for November. I will work with Ms. Nurczyk to design and include these items on the next store should there be a large number of requests to do so. A special Rockdale Ram shoutout to the Will County Sheriff FOP Lodge #94, including our very own Rockdale PD Sergeant Baikie, for the recent donation of school supply backpacks for our Rams. This was the inaugural giveaway event to support over 350 students across local schools. Good evening Rockdale Ram Nation! What a great day it was today at Rockdale Stadium today as our Rockdale Boys Baseball team played their first game of the season. Our Rams put up a valiant fight, but lost 13-7 to Jane Addams. We had our ceremonial first pitch of the season by our very own Dr. Merritt, Rockdale Superintendent! Mr. Whalen, Mr. Peterson, and Dr. Merritt all hustled to try and secure an umpire until a short time ago, but were ultimately unable to do so. We will practice instead at our normal time of 8:00-9:30 AM at CB Diamond. We have another home game scheduled for this Friday at 4:15 against Taft, so we will use the next two days to get prepared for that! Starting at 5 pm until about 5:45 pm, we will be hosting a 6th Grade Parent Night with our Middle School teachers as you learn more about the transition from elementary school to middle school. This is to serve as notice that the Main School Office will be open Tuesday, August 9th (6th Grade Parent Night at 5 pm & Night with Dr. Merritt at 6 pm) and Thursday, August 11th (Kindergarten Orientation at 6 pm) from 12 pm-7 pm due to evening events this week. The Main School Office will be open this Friday, August 12th from 8 am-3 pm. Plus, a very special and warm Rockdale welcome to Dr. Merritt, who is our new Superintendent, and Mrs. Chojnicki, who will be teaching the third section of 1st Grade at Rockdale School! Good morning Rockdale Ram Nation. Rise and shine! Yesterday, Dr. Merritt and I put our walking shoes on and traveled to 71 of our 145 Rockdale students’ homes, which houses 109 students, and we were able to personally speak to 71 of our Rockdale Rams! We visited a few houses North of 80 and West of Larkin, and then homes on Morris working our way east to just before Wheeler and North of Meadow. Today, Wednesday, August 3rd, as we wrap up our home visits, we will be starting on Meadow down by CB Diamond (working our way west) between the times of 8:00-9:00 am. The houses we have left are on Meadow and south of Meadow to Moen. I understand and respect that it might be early, but we are trying to beat the anticipated heat and storms later today. This has been a tremendous experience as we welcome our students back to school on Wednesday, August 17th. It has been a great time to connect with our amazing parent community as well. If we missed you, I sincerely apologize, but we did leave a flier about Dr. Merritt and myself, as well as an important date and Care Closet flier, but also a gift for our Rockdale Rams. This is Mr. Peterson, your Building Principal, and on behalf of Dr. Merritt, our new Rockdale Superintendent, we will be making our way into the community this week, stopping at each of our learners’ homes as we meet and welcome them back to the new 2022-23 school year that begins on Wednesday, August 17th. We will start our “tour” late morning tomorrow, Tuesday, August 2nd and continue through the week until we have made a stop at each home. We will provide each learner with a welcome flier and small gift. If your child is not home when we arrive, we will leave the flier and gift at the front door. We look forward to meeting all of you! On behalf of Ms. Hall, from the Joliet YMCA, please find the following information regarding the After School Kid Zone being held at Rockdale School for the 2022-23 School Year. This program is a YMCA run & staffed program and is not the responsibility of Rockdale School. Any matters associated with the After School YMCA Kid Zone program should be directed to them. We are grateful this year to be able to provide the YMCA with a space. The YMCA will be offering the Kid Zone After School Enrichment Program on-site at Rockdale for the 2022-2023 school year! The Y's After School program runs on all full days of school upon dismissal until 6pm. It provides a resource-rich environment and introduces children to lessons and activities that build on what they learn during the regular school day. Your child(ren) will participate in activities that focus on: character development, arts and humanities, homework/literacy support, STEM, health/wellness and fitness, and social emotional learning. If you are still interested in joining the team, please make sure the steps below are completed. We would love to have you. Our Rockdale Rams Baseball team begins their first practice this Monday, August 1st at 9:30 am at CB Diamond. As a reminder, current Sports physical (one within the past 395 days) and finalized registration must be completed prior to our student-athletes can practice as the first games are fast approaching. The main school office opens at 8 am on Monday, August 1st for any last minute registration questions. If you only have to turn in the sports physical, it can be brought to CB Diamond at the time of practice and will be reviewed and/or processed. Items can be dropped off to Rockdale School from 8 am-3 pm on Monday thru Thursday, no Fridays during the summer and from 8 am-3:45 pm Monday thru Friday when the school year starts. On behalf of Rockdale School District 84, we invite you to “An Evening with Dr. Merritt” hosted by Rockdale’s new Superintendent, Dr. Michael Merritt, on Tuesday, Aug 9 beginning at 6:00 p.m. in the Rockdale School Gymnasium.

We are excited for the upcoming Ram Baseball and Softball seasons! Are you ready?!? All those who are interested in participating on our athletic teams will need to complete the athletic forms, which are linked on our Rockdale website at https://www.rockdale.will.k12.il.us/o/rsd/page/forms. If you are not able to print the forms, we have hard copies in our main office. These forms, along with registration for the new school year, must be completed in order to participate in our athletic program. Softball practice begins this coming Monday, July 25. Baseball practice begins Monday, August 1. We are looking forward to welcoming our athletes back to the new season! #RamPride

A BIG shoutout to our very own Mrs. Blenck, Rockdale 1st Grade Teacher, for her participation in the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run benefiting the Special Olympics. Mrs. Blenck has participated in this ceremonious event for several consecutive years as money is raised and awareness gained for the athletes who participate in Special Olympics Illinois. This was a collaborative effort between the Special Olympics and our very own Rockdale Police Department as the torch made its way down Meadow Avenue and past the school. There had been a year or two hiatus due to the pandemic. In case you missed it, around 10:30 am yesterday, Monday, June 13th, the torch was run through our town of Rockdale and Mrs. Blenck, Sergeant Baikie, Officer Griffing, and Roxy were an integral part of this special event as the Flame of Hope travels 1500 miles through thousands of Illinois communities, just like Rockdale, as it makes its way to the final resting place at the Illinois Special Olympic Summer Games in Normal. Way to go Mrs. Blenck, Officer Griffing, Sergeant Baikie!! #ALL IN as #oneRockdalefamily UN GRAN agradecimiento a nuestra propia Sra. Blenck, maestra de primer grado de Rockdale, por su participación en la carrera anual de la antorcha de las fuerzas del orden en beneficio de las Olimpiadas Especiales. La Sra. Blenck ha participado en este evento ceremonioso durante varios años consecutivos a medida que se recauda dinero y se gana conciencia sobre los atletas que participan en las Olimpiadas Especiales de Illinois. The Rockdale School Board would like to invite you to join us at a reception here at the school to bid Dr. Schrik a fond farewell as he leaves Rockdale School to become the Superintendent of Troy District 30C. We will miss him but wish him the best in this new endeavor. At the same time we also would like to Welcome Dr. Merritt to Rockdale as our new Superintendent. He is coming to Rockdale from the Gardner School District.
