Rockdale Ram Nation! The Rockdale School National Junior Honor Society would like to thank you for your generous donations to their service project for Paws Up 4 Rescue. NJHS students were able to collect bins full of food, toys, and blankets, as well as over $200 in monetary donations! We’d like to extend congratulations to our three graduating members, Ryan Cooling, Gaby Gonzalez, and Emma Nichols! We look forward to seeing how you’ll continue uphold the pillars of the National Junior Honor Society! Yesterday, Thursday, May 11th, Rockdale School was contacted by the Illinois Department of Transportation regarding the project to replace the bridge carrying Wheeler Avenue over Interstate 80, in Joliet. It will require a full closure of Wheeler Avenue, between Woods and Park Avenues beginning, weather permitting, Monday, May 22 through November. This could have an impact on Rockdale families. A posted detour will direct motorists to Meadow Avenue, Larkin Avenue (Illinois 7) and Jefferson Street (U.S. 52). Motorists should also expect occasional overnight lane closures on I-80 at the bridge during that time. Thanks for your time and consideration. I wanted to make sure everyone was in the loop. On this eve of Teacher Appreciation Week, May 8-12, here at Rockdale School, we honor our Rockdale teachers and staff as they give so much each and every day to the youth of our generation. This week is dedicated to reflecting on the powerful influence teachers have had or have on in the lives of our students. Teachers serve in a noble profession where they wear many hats, but never lose focus of their goal which is to touch the heart of a child in a profound way. Teachers are able to make kids smile and put knowledge in their head. A very special thank you to our amazing Rockdale PTO for organizing, decorating, and love that will be showered on our Rockdale staff this week. This celebration would not have been possible without your hard work! On behalf of our Rockdale staff, we thank you! This provides us an opportunity to acknowledge the creative, forward thinking, hardworking, reliable, dedicated, and unstoppable heroes on our Rockdale food service team which includes our cafeteria workers and lunchroom supervisors. We recognize Ms. Elvia, Ms. Enriqueta, Ms. Maria, Ms. Raven, Ms. Newman, Ms. Minarich, Mrs. Breen, Ms. Reyes, Ms. Lopez, and Ms. Mahoney. Thank you for making sure our lunches and breakfasts are prepared with love and care, helping us get our sporks, trays, and milk, for opening my syrup packet when we have French toast sticks, and for serving with a smile. Good afternoon Rockdale Ram Nation. It is with great honor that we announce to our Rockdale learning community, Ms. Hannah Kirk will be serving as the new Student Services Coordinator at Rockdale School starting in the 2023-24 school year. This was approved at the regular April 19th Rockdale Board of Education meeting. Ms. Kirk is a ten year veteran educator, with the last eight years she has been serving Rockdale middle school students as their math teacher. Ms. Kirk has served in many roles at Rockdale School, including, but not limited to: girls softball coach, co-sponsor for the Science club, after school STEM teacher, sponsor for NJHS (National Junior Honor Society), math curriculum coordinator, PBIS committee member, co-Union President, and has assisted with discipline over the course of the year. Ms. Kirk also planned and implemented the Math Elementary intervention program for the 22-23 school year. Ms. Kirk has worn many hats over the past eight years which will equip her with the tools needed to perform the roles and responsibilities at a high level. We were fortunate to have had a diverse candidate pool for the Student Services Coordinator position, but Ms. Kirk rose above with her tremendous skillset, not only in the classroom, but with working with students outside of the classroom setting. As described by one of the interview team members, “Ms. Kirk’s experience and track record speaks for themselves. She has proven to be a dedicated staff member of the Rockdale School District that wants to continue to improve education, climate, and experiences for our students.” Another team member stated “Ms. Kirk has served in different ways which allows her to build meaningful relationships with the students of Rockdale.” We know Ms. Kirk will thrive as she brings her organization and leadership to this role as she supports the efforts to Raise Achievement Master Success for all learners. Es un gran honor anunciar a nuestra comunidad de aprendizaje de Rockdale que la Sra. Rockdale Ram Nation. After six long years, last night, Friday, April 28th, Rockdale’s “Got Talent” Talent Show was back at Rockdale School and sponsored by the Rockdale Student Council. We have amazingly talented students at Rockdale School and this was showcased last night from Kindergartners playing the piano or dancing or singing “Girl on Fire!” to a first grader and third graders “wowing” the crowd with their cheerleading routine to two third graders performing the “Git Up” to a fourth grader demonstrating karate to one of our graduating 8th graders sharing her singing talents with the audience. There was much much more. The crowd was cheering loud and proud for our Rockdale Rams! A special thank you to Mrs. Vallera and Mr. Domenico for the hard work and effort it took to organize and facilitate the Talent Show. This could not have been possible without your leadership. We had several staff members and a Rockdale Board of Education member in attendance to witness this talent first hand. Rockdale Rams, begin thinking about your act that you will be performing at the Rockdale Talent Show 2024!! Thanks for your time and consideration. Have a great rest of your weekend. Rockdale Ram Nation. This past Thursday, April 27th, Mrs. Kelch and our Music Department hosted our Spring Band and Choir concert in the Rockdale School gym. This was an opportunity for parents, aunts, uncles, and/or other family members to see the hard work and growth our band and choir students have made since the beginning of the school year in August. A special thank you to Mrs. Kelch for leading our music program at Rockdale. Without her leadership and vision, our students would not be able to be exposed to the Fine Arts. We had a great turnout to support our Rockdale Fine Arts. Looking forward to our upcoming Kindergarten-2nd Grade and 3rd-5th Grade Spring Concerts in mid-May. This past Wednesday, April 26th, our Rockdale Science Club participated in the annual Science Expo event as local school districts bring students together to create innovative, outside the box projects that were centered around STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) or STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) concepts. Rockdale established five teams for the event which was one of the largest number of groups a school brought to the expo. So proud of our Rockdale Rams! A special thank you to the Science Expo sponsor, ExxonMobil and to Minooka Intermediate School for hosting the four school districts, Rockdale, Channahon, Troy 30c, and Minooka, and to Mr. Olson and Ms. Kirk for co-sponsoring our Science Club.
